The package includes all supplies needed for the detection of Distemper, Corona, and Parvo viruses in dog nasal/ocular secretions, faeces or vomit.
Distemper virus (DV) infects canines and big felids, but also some primate and other species. Typical victims are dogs, coyotes, foxes, wolves, pandas, skunks, raccoons, and ferrets. Effects and symptoms are severe and include high fever, ocular infections, breathing difficulties, vomiting, diarrhoea, lack of appetite, drowsiness, and hardening of nose and sole. Death rates to the infection vary among species from 0 % in felids to 100 % in ferrets.
Corona virus causes epidemics among dogs, but the disease caused by it is today considered very mild, or even without symptoms. However, intestinal proliferation of corona viruses weakens intestines prone to dangerous Parvo virus infections. Corona virus can be destroyed from contaminated dishes by disinfectants. Vaccination saves dogs from corona virus infections.
Parvo virus, CPV-2, causes violent vomiting and bloody diarrhoea in dogs. It is efficiently transmitted from dog to dog causing rapidly expanding epidemics. So far, no specific treatment against the disease is available, making puppies and old or otherwise weak dogs very vulnerable to the effects of the infection. Parvo virus can remain infectious for long periods and travel long distances in materials contaminated by faeces of infected dog. Sensitive to Parvo virus infections are especially Dobermans and Rottweilers. Vaccination is available and highly recommended to all puppies.
